IMPACT OF SOCIALISATION PROCESS ON 'BECOMING A TEACHER AND ITS LIMITATIONS'.

IMPACT OF ONE'S OWN SOCIALISATION PROCESS ON 'BECOMING A TEACHER' AND ITS LIMITATIONS ( IMPACT OF MY EARLY EXPERIENCES AS STUDENT, AS STUDENT TEACHER)

INTRODUCTION
MEANING OF SOCIALISATION

Socialisation is the lifelong process of social interaction through which individuals acquire a self-identify and the physical, mental, and social skills needed for survival in society. The content of socialisation differs greatly from society to society. Socialisation is a processes with the help of which a living organism is changed into a social being. It is a process through which the younger generation learns the adult role which it has to play subsequently. It is a continuous process in the life of an individual and it continues from generation to generation. Socialisation prepares people to participate in a social group by teaching them its norms and expectations. It describes the process through which we learn the culture of society or group we are born into. The agencies of socialisation include: families, society, peer groups, school, college, religions etc.
PROCESS OF SOCIALISATION
Primary socialisation
It can be defined as the process in which the child becomes socialized through the family in the early childhood years. In case of the primary socialisation the key agent is the family. Through family the child first began to learn about the basic beliefs and values and other features of culture, making up the way of life of their society.
Secondary socialisation
It is the process that start in the later years through agencies such as education and peer group. Primary and the secondary socialisation occur at different time period, in case of secondary socialisation the involvement of the family will be less and other social agents plays the dominant role. This can understood from the schools as school acts as the bridge between the family and the society and in school child learns to be equally treated as other as they don't get special attention as in the home. so through school child gets exposed to the actual society.

Impact of socialisation on becoming a teacher (student experiences)
  • Family-
Family plays an important role in the socialisation process. In my family, I was always being motivated by my parents to became a teacher. I was lucky enough to born in a family where my parents gave me full right to choose my career. When I was a student, I always liked to play games based on teachers and while playing, my parents used to look at me and they used to say that ''our Siddhi will become a very good teacher in future''. So when I used to heard these words, I used to get a inner feeling that ''yes, I can became a good teacher''. This experience had a greater impact on  me on becoming a teacher.
There were some people in my family whose thoughts were like, 'teaching is a very easy job. Also teachers are not over-loaded and  they get half day and lots of holidays'. So as a student, when I heard these words from my family members, it some how had impacted on me on becoming a teacher.
  • Society-
Also through society, I was being influence to became a teacher. From childhood, my main aim was to became a teacher. So when I was a student that is at the age of 17 to 18 my relatives used to always demotivate me by saying that, 'Teaching is not a job for you'. They literally said that, 'you won't achieve anything in career'. As I was not interacting much with the people. I was anti-social and introvert kind of a person. I didn't had any confidence to stand in front of the people and communicate. So society thought that I won't be able to achieve my goal of becoming a teacher. I agree, as a student I was not at all interactive person. But when I heard these words from people, I took it in a positive way. Their words never had a negative impact on me but instead it positively influenced me on becoming a teacher. So from that day onwards, I decided that if I want to achieve my goal of becoming a teacher, I have to develop lot many skills like interacting with society, good communication skills etc. So from that day I slowly started interacting with people. In our life, there are such people who demotivate us in becoming something but it is how we take their opinion. Their view points were negative but it didn't impacted me in a negative way but instead I took it in a positive way.
  • Peers-
When I was about to complete my Post Graduation one of my friend had told me that, to became a permanent teacher in school, we need to do Bachelor of Education that is B.Ed. He said, ' B.Ed degree is very much important to get a permanent job'. So I was firm in my decision that I have to do B.Ed not just to became permanent but also to sharpen my teaching skills. But somehow or the other my friend's view point did impacted me on becoming a teacher. But now I know that by doing B.Ed too, some people are not getting jobs or some are getting jobs but are only on temporary basis. So the question of being permanent in school does not occur at all. Its just peoples wrong assumptions.
  • School -
  1. Teachers-
When I was in third year, our Hindi teacher had allotted our class to present a Hindi lesson. I was bit nervous but at the same time I was confident enough to present my lesson. I prepared my lesson and went into the class. When I finished my lesson, my Hindi teacher appreciated me by saying that, 'I  have a quality of becoming a teacher'. She said, ''I see me in you''. These were the most inspiring and motivating words for me. She also said that, my teaching is 75% good but need to polish in certain things. So she insisted me to joined B.Ed. where I'll get a good training to improve on my teaching. Although I had already decided to join B.Ed. but my teachers words even more motivated me to became a teacher. There was a positive impact on me on becoming a teacher. From that day onwards I thought I'll be a good teacher in future. I know, teaching profession is not just teaching a lesson from text book, instead it is how you build students life. It depends on how you are as a person, as a human being.
2- Headmaster/ Principal-
During my schooling, if a good programme was put up by our teachers, our headmaster used to always appreciate them. I used to think that if I became a teacher and also put some beautiful and inspiring programmes in school, I will also get appreciation by the school headmaster. So my headmaster's appreciation to our school teachers did impacted me on becoming a teacher.
IMPACT OF SOCIALISATION IN BECOMING A TEACHER (STUDENT TEACHER)
  • Family-
My parents always motivated me in becoming a teacher. So when I got admission in Nirmala Institute of Education my parents were very much happy. During my practice teaching I even thought of leaving B.Ed. for so much stress. But my parents were my backbone. They motivated me by saying that, 'if I want to became a teacher, I need to sacrifice a lot. I need to do lot of hard work to achieve my goal'. They told me not to give up and this in turn motivated me a lot. So my parents motivation did impacted me a lot on becoming a teacher. To do B.Ed, parents motivation and their support is very much important and needed which I always got and still getting.
  • Society-
Society is the important agent of socialisation process. Society thinks that teaching is a best job for girls. When I was in the process of doing B.Ed., my cousin sister had a proposal. From groom's side they wanted a girl to be a teacher. When I heard their reason for this, they said that, 'teaching is such a job where it is highly paid and plus it is a half day job. After coming from school a women can take care of her family and also will be free to do household work. Because in their thinking teachers are mostly free after coming home'. This was their reason for a bride to be a teacher which was completely wrong. So in order to change the mind set of people this experience influenced me in becoming a teacher. I want to change the mind set of the people who thinks that teaching is a half day job. But it is not so. After coming home teacher have to plan many things before going next day in the school. It may be her lesson plan or conducting any activity in the classroom. Societies negative perception towards teacher really impacted me to change their mind set or thinking. So now my main goal is to change the thinking and thoughts prevailing in society towards teacher by becoming a good teacher.
When I was in a process of becoming a teacher that is as a student teacher, I had a proposal but boys family rejected me simply because I m doing B.Ed. and going to became a teacher. Their perception towards teachers was that they think all teachers have aggressive nature . But this was their wrong assumption towards teacher. So this impacted me on becoming a teacher in order to change the perception of society towards teacher. Sometimes teacher needs to be strict in class to build the career of each child. Because if the teachers aren't strict, the students will not take their studies or career seriously. But that does not mean that teachers are aggressive in behaviour. It just depends on how she controls her class. Sometimes teachers need not shout or scrim to control the class but by engaging students in to a interesting activity, she can also control class in much better way.
  • Peers-
As a student teacher, I experience good as well as bad experiences with my peers. Some peers really helped me during this course. One of my peer demotivated me. She was literally forcing me to quite B.Ed. While some peers really motivated me in achieving my goal of becoming a teacher. If any difficulty occurred, my peers always helped me and they are still doing. It may be for lesson plan or any other activity or work. We all support each other on becoming a teacher.
At times there were also competition among our own peers. Just to reach our goal in life. So I personally took these competitions in a healthy way. By achieving marks nobody will get a job. It is how you present your personality during interview and how you give demo lesson. Achieving marks will not make us a good teacher instead good teacher is who guides her students, build child future, make them understand the purpose of life and inculcate good values or moral values among themselves.
  • College-
1- Teacher-
As a student-teacher, many teachers from Nirmala Institute of Education touched my life in becoming a teacher. During my practice teaching, teachers really motivated me on becoming a teacher. Their motivation help me reach this stage till now. They gave me lot of positive feedback which were really inspiring for me. But some teachers gave me negative feedback which almost demoralised me. But teachers told me that these negative feedback we must take it in positive way. So whenever I used to get negative feedback I took it in a positive way and started improving on my weaknesses. Nirmala Institute of Education is such a B.Ed college, where teachers sharpen each and every teacher trainee so that we became best teachers in life.
2- Headmaster/ Principal-
The Principal of Nirmala Institute of Education really motivated me on becoming a inspiring teacher. The way she speaks, her kind nature, her guidance to all teacher trainees, her positive approach towards life, her confidence in class all impacted me on becoming a successful teacher. All these qualities are needed to became a good and successful teacher in life. A teacher is not only how she teaches a lesson but how she touches the life of every student. Our Principal's motivation to all teacher trainees inspired us in becoming a teacher.
3- Administrative staff-
Through Nirmala Institute of Education ''Administrative staff'' I learned how to work in cooperation. As teachers, it is very much important that we must cooperate with each other. It is also important to put forth our point and also to listen to others opinion and work cooperatively. Through Nirmala Institute of Education ''Administrative staff'' I learned to work in cooperation and this in turn impacted me on becoming a teacher. So when I will join school, I'll be able to work in cooperation with others.
LIMITATIONS-
1- Some families think that, 'teaching is a very easy job. Also teachers are not over-loaded and  they get half day and lots of holidays'. But this is not so, because teachers after coming home have to plan what she will be teaching in next class. Teaching is a very tough profession to do.
2- Society sometimes demotivates a person whose main aims or goals may be to become a teacher in life.
3- In todays generation, some youths have wrong assumptions that after doing B.Ed. they will get a permanent job in schools. Yes, B.Ed is important in teaching field but after doing B.Ed we will immediately get permanent job is totally a wrong assumption.
4- Society things that teachers mostly have irritating and aggressive behaviour. So in terms of proposal, they sometimes never prefer teachers for their aggressive behaviour.
5-  Society thinks that 'teaching is such a job where it is highly paid and plus it is a half day job. After coming from school, a women can take care of her family and also will be free to do household work. Because in their thinking teachers are mostly free after coming home'. But this is not so, after coming home teacher have to plan many things before going next day in the school. It may be her lesson plan or conducting any activity in the classroom.
6- Some peers still thinks that marks are important for a teaching job. Because of such thinking this leads to competition among students. By achieving marks nobody will get a job. It is how you present your personality during interview and how you give demo lesson. Achieving marks will not make us a good teacher instead good teacher is who guides her students, build child future, make them understand the purpose of life and inculcate good values or moral values among themselves.
